After quite a hiatus our blog begins afresh in a new year. 2007 was eventful but 2008 looks just as busy if not more so.
Winter time is a period of relative calm in the agricultural year on the farm. With no animals to overwinter we have been able to concentrate on school, which takes up a huge amount of our time. Both April and I look forward to the spring when we can get back to running the farm full time.
But that doesn't mean nothing has been going on on the farm front, far from it!
A few major changes have taken place in the last few weeks that we are quite excited about. First off the farm has become a registered business! We knew that this coming season we would likely make enough income that we would be obligated to report it, so it made sense to take the plunge and set the farm up its own account. Thank you to all those who have supported us thus far! We are building this farm together and we look forward to growing for you again this year.
Secondly we are gearing up to take on 20 CSA shares this year! Its pretty exciting, and kinda scary, but with this step up in scale we can float the farm through the summer without needing an outside source of income. Yay!
Next up in important news is the launch of our new website. This website should help people better understand what it is we are doing, where we are, what we grow and how to get in touch with us. borealedgefarm.googlepages.com/home
The main page is up on the site right now with more to follow soon.
On the nuts and bolts end of things we are ordering seed, tillage equipment, mulling over a greenhouse and planning the expanded gardens for the coming year.
Pictured is the top of Hattuvauri mesa poking up above the Palisades across the valley from our farm.
Thanks again for everybody's interest in the farm and our blog. We draw a lot of comfort from the kind words and support we have received from so many of you, without it this endeavor wouldn't be possible.
