Warming up!

You can tell we are heading toward spring now. For the first time this year, its warm enough for Jane our little Jack Russell to sit outside in her bed in the sunbeams.
In other news our Seed Order for 2009 is done! We are trying quite a few new things this year that I'm pretty excited about. Chocolate tomatoes, Fairytale Eggplant and Music Garlic to name a few. We have also become a Registered Farm in the last few weeks which has allowed us to join the co-op as well as the National Farmers Union. Of the three farm organizations we had the option of joining the NFU seemed the most compatible with our beliefs and practices. I'm really looking forward to participating in the Via Campesina. Even though we are so few and far between here in North America, its beneficial for all small farmers/peasants to work in solidarity with each other all over the world. Many of the issues we face are the same, regardless of our place on the planet. And with the crumbling of the neo-liberal, globalized economy, we need a human scaled food system that works without transnational corporations, government subsidies and vast quantities of petroleum, now more than ever.
